MY FIRST

POWERLIFTING

PROGRAM.

A 13-week online group coaching program to prepare you for your first competition.

At Burley Strength, we believe powerlifting is one of the most accessible sports in the world. If you've ever wrapped your hands around a barbell then powerlifting is for you.

We've been involved in the growth of the sport in the ACT since 2014 and in that time we've seen hundreds of lifters hit the competition platform for the first time.

The My First Powerlifting (MFP) program was designed to help guide new lifters through the murky waters of training to step onto the platform for the first time. By the end of the program, you’ll be ready to crush it on the platform at the next Novice Powerlifting competition here at Burley.

The MFP Program includes:

  • A customised 13-week training program (including a baseline testing & technique assessment week) that is designed to ensure you're at your strongest on the day of competition.

  • Weekly technique feedback and discussion in a group call setting.

  • Competition day coaching including a customised warm-up and attempt selection plan for each individual.

  • Early access to registrations for the next Burley Strength Novice Powerlifting meet.

  • Access to the Burley online community including a private channel for discussing the program with other participants.

  • Discounted membership options at the conclusion of the program.

All FOR ONLY $14/WEEK!

Spots are strictly limited. Follow the “Register now” link to see our upcoming program dates.

FAQs

Is this PROGRAM right for me?

If you're considering your first powerlifting competition this program is for you.

This program is specifically aimed at lifters who've had some gym experience and can perform a barbell squat, bench press & deadlift.

Technique assessment and guidance will be a part of the experience however the nature of this group setting means this program is not ideal for those with 0 gym experience.

If you are currently dealing with injuries and/or niggles that have an impact on your training this program might not be for you. Contact us directly to discuss your situation if you have any concerns.

Is there a minimum strength level to compete and/or follow this program?

Nope!

One of the awesome things about powerlifting as a sport is that the barrier to entry is relatively low. If you can perform a squat, bench press, and deadlift with a barbell you're ready to compete!

The program itself will have guidance for load selection with each exercise and will encourage all participants to develop autonomy through a better understanding of their own capabilities.

When does the course run?

The program is delivered entirely online and intakes for this course occur in the 13 weeks leading up to each novice competition to provide a streamlined experience for your first time on the platform.

Follow the “Register now” link above to see the upcoming course dates.

How many training days per week does the program include?

This program is designed for a 3-day/week training schedule.

If you're already training more than 3 days/week we will have options for optional extra sessions to add to the schedule.

What equipment do I need access to for this program?

The program will be largely barbell based so if you've got a rack, a bar and a bench you're good to go!

Any exercises outside of those performed with a barbell will be aimed at the equipment you would have access to at the average commercial gym.

Substitutions for exercises will be available for those with limited options.

Do I need to be a Burley member to join this group?

Nope!

This group program is open to anyone who's keen to step onto the platform at our next novice competition.

If you decide that, after this program, you're interested in becoming a full-time member of the Burley team we'll have options for both online and in-person coaching memberships.

Does the program include access to Burley HQ?

No. This program is delivered entirely online for you to perform at the gym where you currently train.

If you'd like to follow the program and take advantage of the Burley facilities please reach out to discuss your options.

Does the program include entry to the next novice competition at Burley Strength?

No, however participants in this program will be given early access to competition entries to ensure you secure a spot.

Competing at the next novice competition is not compulsory though we strongly encourage everyone to jump into their first competition whenever possible. The program itself will be aimed at the competition date and, if you're not planning to compete, using the opportunity to test your gym lifts in the competition week will be the best plan of action.
